Essential Windows 10 Keyboard Shortcuts

I will show you the essential shortcuts that every Windows 10 users should know. If the mouse is slowing you down these keyboard shortcuts will perform tasks a little faster.

Keyboard shortcut                                                 Action

Ctrl + A                                                                      Select all content.

Ctrl + C (or Ctrl + Insert)                                       Copy selected items to clipboard.

Ctrl + X                                                                      Cut selected items to clipboard.

Ctrl + V (or Shift + Insert)                                     Paste content from clipboard.

Ctrl + Z                                                                       Undo an action, including undelete files.

Ctrl + Y                                                                       Redo an action.

Ctrl + Shift + N                                                         Create new folder on desktop/File Explorer.

Ctrl + F4                                                                    Close active window.

Ctrl + D                                                                      Delete selected item to the Recycle Bin.

F2                                                                               Rename mouse selected item.

ESC                                                                             Close current task.

Shift + Delete                                                           Delete selected item permanently.

Alt + Tab                                                                   Switch between open apps.

Windows key + I                                                     Open Settings app.

Windows key + E                                                    Open File Explorer.

Windows key + A                                                    Open Action center.

Windows key + D                                                   Display and hide the desktop.

Windows key + L                                                    Lock device.

Windows key + V                                                    Open Clipboard bin.

Windows key + period                                          😁(.) or semicolon (;) Open emoji panel.

Windows key + PrtScn                                          Take full screenshot in “Screenshots” Folder

Windows key + Shift +   S                                     Capture part of the screen in a screenshot.

Windows key + Left arrow key                           Snap app or window left.

Windows key + Right arrow key                         Snap app or window right.

About Sylvia the IT Lady Sylvia has been working in the IT industry for 25 years. Provided support for users at the Calgary Airport, Calgary City Hall, Nortel, Law firm in Calgary, Law firm in Toronto, Software start-up company and a Bottling company. She began her career after the kids went to school working for an Electrical Contracting firm in Calgary, started on the reception desk ending up as HR manager.
